Thrifty Thrifty

I love thrift stores. I try not to frequent them if I'm not looking for something specific because I can get sucked into the mindset of "I don't need it...but it's so cheap...how can I NOT buy this!?" But today I went in search of a few things...and found some goodies. I was delightfully surprised to find that everything was 40% off because they are moving their store around the corner. Yay!

I'm starting a Flickr set to document my thrift store finds. There are descriptions on each photo with prices, etc. I will only document going forward...even though it would be fun to take photos of everything in my house that is thrifted. It could take days!

What has been your BEST thrift store find?

Great thrifting! I think one of my best finds was a hand-knotted persian tribal rug for $89. It was in less than optimal shape, but that's part of the charm.

I love thrift stores as well. My kids say "I don't know why anyone would shop in those expensive stores when you can get the same things for a lot cheaper."

I don't remember any specific major finds, but I've gotten great deals on clothes, especially for my girls who wear only dresses or skirts.

My best find was a Laura Ashley reversible comforter in great condition for my child's room. I also love shopping at thrift stores.

thrift stores are truly amazing!!

my best find was a handmade crocheted purse in a navy blue with a white flower... it sounds boring describing it, but i'll have to take pics and show you. it's very beautiful and extremely well made for being done by hand. :)

My friends own a vintage store here (www.bettyejanes.com) and they have the BEST finds there. Infact, I am going on my lunch break to see what's 'new'.

My ultimate find was two things.
1.Birkenstocks in exactly my size. I was desperately needing a new pair but no funds to purchase new ones. I truly couldn't believe my eyes. In brown leather,my favorite.
Thank You Lord, for putting me in the right place at the right time.
2. A pair of black Dansko clogs in my size.
Can you believe it?

Kim, WHOA. That's a double-good find.

We thrift shop every weekend but have come to the agreement that every time or every other time we go, we need to drop something off. This is unfortunately very easy for us to do because we are so cluttered and my partner is a packrat.

My best thrift finds have been: (1) a Choroi pentatonic handmade wooden flute, which normally costs $65 and is what children play in 1st grade in Waldorf schools, for $3.99; (2) an IKEA kids' "egg" chair for $5.99 (instead of $45 or whatever they cost new), and (3) a Small World Toys play table with pounding pegs and shape sorter and lace board that was marked $9.99, but supposedly had chairs with it, although it's not sold with chairs; because they could not locate the chairs, they knocked the price down to $6. This is a $70 table.

The majority of the toys our son plays with and the clothing he wears is thrifted. I have just discovered the craft section of the thrift store where I frequently can find really good inox knitting needles for 69 cents a pair because the pricers know nothing about knitting needles. I am filling out my needle collection in a hurry. I also found a whole ton of wooden thread spools which went into a basket for my son to play with, and a partial but mostly complete skein of Lamb's Pride Cotton Luxury (80 cotton / 20 merino) yarn in a gorgeous plum color for 69 cents.

As you can tell by my gushing, I love to thrift. :)

Enjoying your blog :)
